Thrill of a Lifetime

My Dad just had his birthday this past Tuesday and we got to arrange a once in a life time experience for him in which all of us got to be a part of tonight which was so cool. One of my dad's great passions is flying. When I was a kid and we lived in Kansas City, MO he flew small 4-6 passenger planes all over the midwest. I remember flying to different little grass air fields as he would speak at different churches in small towns in MO, OK, KA. When we moved down to Tampa after I had graduated from HS the availability and the cost to fly caused him to not be able to fly hardly at all. So his chances to get in a cockpit are far and few between.

So recently Gloria and I were out with some friends enjoying a little dessert at one of our favorite places at Butterwoods on Main St, when the topic of flying came up and I told them about dad's flying history. This friend had a friend who owned a plane but not just any plane but a WWII Jet Fighter Trainer. So I asked him if it might be possible to get my dad up in the air in that thing! SO we worked out a plan and tonight we got to SURPRISE him with a thrill of a life time. It was so cool for the family and a few friends to be able to see him fly off into the wild (or is it wide) blue yonder, in an open cockpit going 200 mph in this jet fighter from WWII. Only down side was my mom was not here because she is taking care of her mom in Commerce OK, who fell and broke her hip last week. It was a beautiful night and it was great for my kids to see their grandfather flying a plane in which they had never seen him do before!

I flew a lot as a teenager and at one time I could land and take off in a plane (not by myself) but that was a long time ago in a land far away!

You never know how God will bless you – so thankfull!
