Sunday Night Rewind

What a day or I should say week it has been!

Left early Wed morning on the 6.00 flight to Atlanta to meet up with Joshua and Tina to attend the Orange Conference. This was a conference that Rethink puts on every year to help resource of its partners in ministry. We use their curriculum and embrace much of their philosophy in our Family Ministry at Renovation.

It was a great couple of days of hearing some great communicators, pastors, leaders talk about something that we are very passionate about at Renovation and that is the spiritual formation of our families!

Orange is symbolic of taking two colors… red and yellow and combining them to create the powerful color of Orange… so taking the influence of the home…red and the power of the church…yellow and combing the influence for a greater impact that will echoloud!

It was great to hook up with a bunch of staff/volunteers form other churches in WNY… a crew from Crosspoint, a crew from White Haven Ch, and a crew form Eastern Hills!

We want to make sure we are partnering with parents… resourcing them (me) so that they can train up their (my) children in the understanding of the Lord! We do things on purpose in our family ministry. It is NOT child care or baby-sitting it is INVESTING. Investing in families so that boys and girls will fall in love with Jesus Christ and be passionate followers of CHrist as teenagers… college students… young adults…young married couples… parents… that is a generational mission and vision that we have to see the restoration of NW Buffalo.

Speaking of partnering… we had our 3rd and I must say best Renovation Family Production today. We use the first 15 minutes of the 9.19 gathering on the first Sunday of the month to introduce the new virtue of the month. As parents register their kids on this day instead of dropping them off and going over to the adult environment the parents stay (kindergarten-5th gr) and hang out in their kids small group room getting to know their small group leader a little better. At 9.19 everybody comes into the PowerZone theater.

Today was great because so many parents were able to come and actually see/hear for themselves what our kids get to see/hear every week! The video was great… the worship was great! Led by our students! The virtue this month is Patience! What a great virtue for the Cockrell clan to learn about this month!

So thankful for Joshua and the team he is leading so well… every volunteer matters… every task counts… thanks for all that you guys are doing… you are the heros at Renovation!

Had a great time worshipping today…

we exposed the 3rd enemy of our heart today… GREED!

He is a nasty enemy that gets it’s sticky fingers on our hearts and it is tough to pry those fingers off our hearts. But with God’s help it is possible… every time we give something away we through a jab at this enemy.

We discovered that greed will hide behind anything good! As we begin to clean out our hearts of greed and then stand guard against letting it back in we must watch out for all kinds of greed by…

  • Prioritizing our stuff… time,talent,treasure with a Kingdom bent…
  • Percentage giving… give a certain percentage to fund the Kingdom before you fund your thingdom!
Got to finish the morning by baptizing big Michael… what a thrill that was!

I will tell you his story maybe later this week!

Thank you Father in Heaven for being patient, kind, loving, merciful and full of grace toward us today!
