Ruh-Roh!

Have you ever found yourself hearing only the first part of a conversation and then getting stuck in the first sentence or two…meanwhile the other person is still talking and you look like your still listening but your not.

I admit it happens to me more than I would like to admit… like this morning.

I was reading in James chapter 1 and I read James saying…

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

My first thoughts were… yes I love that and I immediately claimed that for myself and began to ask God to give his wisdom and I boldly believe it…

Then my eyes fell on the rest of the statement…

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone

As my friend Scooby always says…Ruh-Roh!

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith Brek is in God alone! Not in somebody else or another organization, or in your ability to pull this next thing off… no just remember that if you ask and your faith is in something else/other than God you are this kind of person…

… for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

How often have I asked God in a moment or a season of life when I am trying to accomplish things or trying to navigate through things and have asked Him for his wisdom but have done so with a divided heart…

‘God this is what I want, or what I desire (these are always really good things J) or what I really believe needs to happen… will you give me the wisdom (and resources) to accomplish them…’ that is a divided heart, I am unsettled and so I languish instead of flourish.

My trust/faith is in my agenda, my desires, my beliefs… not surrendering all of those things and asking my Father, Lord Your will, Your agenda and show me how I need to cooperate with that as it relates to these issues that I am in the middle of…

That is where I need to be in my heart/spirit when I claim this promise that James tells us to tap into.

That’s just me though you probably never have to deal with this issue.
