R Urban Leadership Center

XCEL is going to be R Urban Leadership Center that we are launching on September 21.
As we get closer we are all feeling a little bit of pressure… but also extremely excited about what God is getting ready to do.
We have had the great blessing of observing Peace of the City over the last 2 years serve and provide after school care and a host of other things. They do an amazing job are partnering with us to launch XCEL.
Toni Benjamin (the exc assistant director) will be directing the Homework club for 1st – 5th grade and providing some great leadership and guidance in other areas of XCEL.
Of course this is just the beginning and the first phase of what I hope and pray will be one of the great Leadership Centers anywhere in our city or beyond.
We are trying to make an investment in 2010 that will make a difference in 2020…
- less than 30% of the adult population in our community has a HS diploma… that needs to change by 2020
- less than 50% of our possible seniors graduating in the city of Buffalo this year… that needs to change by 2020
- the future creative minds and hearts of our city is being hi-jacked by drugs, violence, poverty… that needs to change by 2020
I could go on but the point is we have to do something… NOW!
As a new church plant less than 2 years old we don’t have the all the resources we need… but God does and we are trusting Him to provide it.
We have some 70 kids from 1st – HS registered to start when we open the doors in 2 weeks. Not sure how many will actually show up but even if half do we will be thrilled!
We are trying to raise $50,000 to launch this program from scratch. It’s a lofty goal but worth working toward.
We have to lay carpet, paint, get furniture, computers, books… this money will help us with programing through the year and providing transportation when needed… it will also help underwrite salaries for staffing. It will also help fund the cost of getting our Non-Profit status and our 501c3.
God is already connecting us with those who have a heart to help us…
A business man gave us $1000 this morning after hearing about it from Joshua while working out at the gym!
A local computer company contacted us today about possibly helping us!
Schuele Paint is giving us a great discount on our paint, saving us hundreds of dollars!
