First Day

Well today was the first day of school for Carlee and Caleb and fortunately everything went well! When they were younger there was not a lot of thought went into what they had on  and how they might look – not any more. Good grief – thankfully we didn't have any major meltdowns getting ready this morning just little ones if you know what I mean moms and dads!

It is always interesting as we go from one season of life with our kids how you think the particular season that you are in is really tough and you see other families in different seasons and you think "oh they got it easier because…" then when you get to that season it's a NEW set of issues. Parenting as is life is always a new discovery!

We got an email from a family that we got to know and love while we were in Mobile, AL back in the 90's. They were in the Sunday School class that we taught and now they are missionaries in Bangkok. They were called into missions after  Everett went on a sort term missions trip. He was perimedic and Laurie was a stay at home mom and they put there answer of yes on the table and moved half way around the world – now that's what I call a step of faith! One day I hope to have them come visit us at Elmwood.Laughing

Speaking of missions – if we call ourselves Christ followers than you are a missionary, you might not be a strategic on task one but you are one. Being a missionary means you are partnering with God to accomplish His mission of redemption for everybody. I know that we are only a few months old but I want us to be a community of faith that has missions – locally – nationally – globally which we might say GLOCAL as Bob Roberts says in his book Transformation in our DNA. When we sat down and worked out a possible budget for Elmwood we put in a percentage that would go toward MISSIONS from day one. So as we give back to God in our tithes and offerings you can know that part of that is already going to GLOCSL missions.

I will be talking about this some more over the next few weeks but we will also be helping a Church get launched in Syracuse! We will not only get a chance to help financially but physically on a couple of projects as they get ready to launch in 08!
